Mario Botta La Quinta chair for Alias, Switzerland 1985, **One chair left
Mint condition original 1980s Mario Botta Chairs for Alias. One chair left.
During the 1980s, famous Swiss architect, Mario Botta worked with the manufacturer Alias as a designer on a whole range of furniture. Bottas ingenious designs are often composed of simple geometric shapes, while also creating unique complex spaces. See images 3 and 9 in this posting to see some of his stunning architectural works.
The Quinta chair’s frame is made of metal tubing and the seat is constructed from folded perforated sheet metal. The shape of the perforated steel back and seat lend some flexibility to the material and allow to comfortably sit or lean back. The chair, originally made in Italy, is no longer in production today.
Quinta is not simply a chair. Rather, it is a piece of design and architecture history you can sit on. Designed in 1985, this iconic chair demonstrates the influence of Le Corbusier, Louis Kahn and Carlo Scarpa on Bottas work. The distinct lines of the chair are reminiscent of the architect’s work for Museum of Modern Art building in San Francisco, where the chair is on display today.
This listing is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the last examples of the original production of this collectible and iconic design.
